Flash Flood Warning – Bog Walk Gorge
Posted On: Sep 13, 2010The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) is advising that as a result of the Flash flood warning that is currently in effect for all parishes, extreme care MUST be taken when using flood-prone areas.
VEHICULAR TRAFFIC VIA THE BOG WALK GORGE HAS BEEN SUSPENDED AS THE GORGE IS CURRENTLY CLOSED.
At report time, water levels within the Gorge were recorded at 13 feet, well in excess of the 8 feet critical level. Motorists are being urged to heed the directives from the Police on the ground.
FLOOD SAFETY TIPS
• Remain calm
• Monitor your radio
• Avoid flooded waterways
• Do not walk through heavy pools of water
• Wrap important documents in a water-resistant container
