The Office of Disaster Preparedness & Emergency Management (ODPEM) wishes to remind the public that the Agency is the central coordinating agency in Jamaica for all disaster relief supplies including donations (cash/kind) for the Help Haiti initiative

The Meteorological Service has discontinued the TROPICAL STORM WARNING for Jamaica. The island is no longer under threat of tropical storm-force winds as Hurricane Matthew continues to move away and weather conditions improve.

The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management is reporting that the National Emergency Operations Centre has scaled down activities to Level 1 Activation in light of the reduction in the threat level of Hurricane Matthew.

The Minister of Local Government and Community Development, Honourable Desmond McKenzie updated the nation this afternoon on the threat posed by Hurricane Matthew as the system continues to move very slowly northward toward Jamaica. Minister McKenzie advised the nation that approximately 89 shelters island-wide are currently housing 1845 occupants.
