ODPEM Celebrates 30 Years (Tuesday July 20, 2010 )

Wednesday July 21, 2010 marks 30 years since the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) was established. Since 1980, the organisation has paved the way for a formalized approach to disaster management in Jamaica. As the organisation celebrates its 30th anniversary, the commitment is to continue to take proactive and timely measures to prevent or reduce the impact of hazards on Jamaica, its people, natural resources and economy, through its trained and professional staff, the use of appropriate technology and collaborative efforts with national, regional and international agencies.

ODPEM Receives Warehouse Management Training from the US Department of Defense (Thursday July 15, 2010 )

The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) staff members have completed their final phase of warehouse management training funded by the US Department of Defense. The training began on Monday July 12, 2010 and was conducted by the Management Technical Services (Man Tech), a group of Management Technical International Corporation; and Sub-Contractors - Business Contingency Group from the United States.

US Department of Defense Boosts ODPEM in Disaster Relief Preparations (Thursday July 15, 2010 )

The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) received a major upgrade to its Disaster Relief Warehouse and approximately nineteen thousand US dollars worth of emergency management equipment from the US Embassy Military Liaison Office in Collaboration with its Head Office US SOUTHERN COMMAND, located in Miami Florida

ODPEM Meets with Representatives from the Pacific to Discuss Best Practices in Disaster Risk Management & Climate Change in Jamaica ( Monday July 12, 2010 )

The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has begun the first of its two day discussions with representatives from the Pacific, Pacific Islands Applied Geoscience Commission (SOPAC) and other local and international partner agencies to discuss Best Practices in Disaster Risk Management and Climate Change in Jamaica.
